2006 Melanson Stone's Throw Napa Valley Chardonnay
The 2005 was a sleeper hit last year at 28 bucks, and 2006 is no different.... except for one small change. The PRICE! Somehow, they brought the price down to a gasp-inducing twenty dollars. The story of how this happened is too long to share here, but the end result completely forced me to re-think the Chardonnay program for the summer. This is going to be our new linchpin!! Melanson is a perfect summer Chard, a full-bodied, silky smooth white with expressive flavors of all kinds of yumminess, tropical, flora, citrus, and butterscotch. Sure I love our rack of Chardonnays-under-25, but some wines are just more perfect than others.

2007 Mayacamas Napa Valley Chardonnay
These heroes poured their 2007 and 2004 Chardonnay for our first CHEERS! ST. HELENA event in May. Boy was it awesome to see how Mayacamas develops! In the pantheon of great and truly Burgundian Chardonnays from Napa, there is one that remains undisputed by critics, unchanged by time, and unspoiled by fame. Mayacamas remains atop the heap along with Montelena, Stony Hill, and a few others. The 2007 is something all-together electrifying. Tread here not, seekers of butter n oak!

2008 Knights Bridge West Block Knights Valley Chardonnay
I don't think that we'll stop carrying one of the most impressive newcomers to the valley at this rate. Knights Bridge, made by new-star winemaker Jeff Ames, keeps cranking out stunning, luxurious Chardonnays. If you love Kongsgaard, Peter Michael, Kistler, etc.... you should jump at the change to try Knights Bridge's best Chardonnay. Truth remains. Mark my words: we will all soon come to know the Knights Valley appellation, just north of Napa County, as the fortress in which resides one of the best newcomer Chardonnay labels in quite a while.
