California's claim to fame! While most vine life-cycles end around 30 years, Zin vines can thrive for well over 100, hence the popular term “Old Vine Zin” After our white Zin side-track, it has finally become a classy grape to be reckoned with, producing some of the state’s most powerful, fruit-forward, engaging wines. Stylish, high-octane, ripe, with sweet spice and deep, alluring purple colors. Kind of like Prince.

2005 Green & Red Napa Valley Tip Top Zinfandel
This is a special purchase for us. It's not the most recent vintage of Green & Red, but it was brought to our attention by Fred and Cathy Beringer, (owners of this shop along with Judi & Tom). Wow, the result makes me want to lay down Zins for a couple of years if they end up tasting this good! Always known for its outstanding pricing, Green & Red gets even better if you ask for their library stuff. Ripe berry fruit intermingles with a touch of sweet earth, white pepper, a little all-spice, and a lingering, balanced finish. The "Tip-Top Vineyard" refers to Green & Red's very best and highest elevation portion of the estate. No decanting needed!

Summer beckons with a terrific array of brambly fruits, all-spice, and a kiss of fresh strawberries on the finish. Medium-bodied and quite capable of complimenting any picnic or bbq you care to throw!

2008 Jelly Jar Mendocino County Zinfandel Nova Vineyard
If this summer is supposed to be warmer than last, and all the thermometers crank their red devils to new levels, then this Zinfandel may be the counterweight red. If you sometimes are turned off by the truckloads of in-your-face jamminess in many Zinfandels, then Jelly Jar should refresh your palate and rest your mind. While it is fresh fruited and tasty, it is incredibly well-balanced, with no pedantry. A skip in the step for a grape not known for it's flexible refreshment.

2008 Fontanella Napa Valley Zinfandel
No doubt Fontanella's here to stay. If you're a fan of wines by Carter Cellars & Saddleback, then take a look at own personal project! Absolutely gorgeous & pure fruit, ready balance, and a rockin stage-presence worthy of Napa's blessing makes this an instant hit at SHWC. Even our hard-to-please "Zin Guru" Judi J. was floored by how good it's showin'.

2007 Gamba Russian River Zinfandel
Gimme some Gamba! I bet that's their tag line, but I'm borrowing it. They are sometimes quiet about it, but these folks have some pretty darn old vines used to make this crazy-good Zinfandel. A complete array of traditional dark fruits, brambly
